Dear Friends,
After more than 25 years of granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of North Texas has moved to our permanent home. The Wishing Place is a new building where children and their families can spend time before, during and after their wish, and where our staff and volunteers can begin the magical journey of making each wish come true.
The Wishing Place will enhance the way we ask a child to imagine a wish, the way we present many of our wishes, and the way we network and plan activities for the families we serve. Our new home also provides spaces for the presentation of a wish, for making a wish, for volunteer training, for family gatherings, and office and conference space.
Children come to the Make-A-Wish Foundation® at a frightening time in their lives, a time of uncertainty, frustrating limitations, and pain. A life-threatening medical condition abruptly halts the real work of a child's life – dreaming, creating, imagining, playing – and begins, instead, a determined fight for a normal childhood.
The wish children and their families know that medicine alone is not enough when chemotherapy begins, remission fails or a transplant looms. Moments of laughter and magic play a key role in the ability to face these challenges. Our volunteers and staff have brought hope, strength and joy to these children who carry unimaginable burdens by granting more than 3,000 wishes in North Texas over the past 25 years.
The opportunity to "make a wish" provides a bright interlude that is positive and full of joy. We hope that you, inspired by the courage and enduring spirit of our wish children, will help us share the "Power of a Wish" through your gift to The Wishing Place.
