Our Stories
Elizabeth
Magic was in the air on the night of Saturday, August 19th, when the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of North Texas granted its 3,000th wish — Elizabeth’s wish to have a Hollywood Slumber Party! And what better time to celebrate this gala occasion than Elizabeth’s 9th birthday?
With a little help from the Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas and A LOT of magic, Elizabeth’s wishgranters began planning a party fit for a movie-star. The Gaylord Texan Resort generously donated their Presidential Suite, so that Elizabeth and her 10 best friends could celebrate the evening in celebrity style. A local fairy godmother (and professional makeup artist) arrived to beautify the girls, who also had their hair styled and were treated to complimentary manicures and pedicures from the Gaylord spa staff. In addition, each girl received plush monogrammed spa robes, slippers and teddy bears from the Resort.
Could the night get any more fabulous? Definitely! The girls’ suite was stocked with gourmet candy machines, a chocolate fountain, all the snacks they could want, Hollywood decorations, a HUGE flat-screen TV already cued up to play High School Musical, a karaoke machine and much, much more.

When it was time for dinner, the girls paraded down a red carpet— wearing custom-designed frilly pink dresses— and piled into their awaiting limo. Along the way, they were cheered on by hundreds of well-wishers, “fans” and “paparazzi”— all waving painted posters, holding autograph books and snapping pictures.
Upon returning from the Rainforest Café, more surprises arrived for the girls. The Gaylord continued to put on the glitz by wheeling in a beautiful four-tiered birthday cake baked by the hotel pastry chef, iced in a rainbow of colors and topped with a sugar-sculpted swan. To burn off the calories, the girls enthusiastically twisted and twirled during their private belly-dancing lessons!
They partied all night long, and awoke to the delicious aroma of warm blueberry waffles, (not on the menu, but specifically requested by Elizabeth and friends). When the party was over, the magic remained, for who could ever forget Elizabeth and the movie-star memories of our 3,000th wish?
