Sierra
I Wish to Meet Hillary Duff!
When five-year-old girls have idols, they are frequently teenage girls. Our Sierra is no exception! Her dream was to meet “Lizzie Maguire,” a fantasy character on the Disney Channel – “The Lizzie Maguire Show.” With the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of North Texas in the picture, her wish came true, because Sierra was able to meet the reality behind the fantasy – Hillary Duff!
Between a hectic appearance schedule and trips to Rome for filming “The Lizzie Maguire Movie,” it was pretty hard to hook Hillary Duff up with Sierra. One special day, we learned that Hillary planned to be in Texas to sing at a concert. With Make-A-Wish magic working overtime, staff members pursued contacts at radio station WILD 100.3 to make it all happen in one day!
As the sun began to set over the metroplex, Sierra was escorted to her limousine, along with Mom, Dad, brother Undre and sister Kierra. Driven in style to the theater, they were ushered backstage to Hillary’s dressing room. Once there, Sierra met her idol. The two girls posed for pictures, chatted like old friends and even sang a little of the movie’s hit tune together. From there it was time to watch the show – front row center, of course – where magic continued throughout the evening.
In the limo, cuddled safely between Mom and Dad, Sierra talked on and on about her special friend. We know, too, that Hillary will remember her special “Wish” friend in Texas because the “power of a wish” affects all those who grant wishes for special kids. A wish helps a child see a future beyond the illness and make recovery a reality. If Sierra’s wish could come true, what else might be possible?
